About Me

Who I Am - is the possibility of courage, being fully self expressed, inspirational, powerfully in action, and the possibility of having unconditional love for myself and humankind. That is Who I Am.

I was born in Jamaica, October 1948. I went to England October 1968 at ten years of age, to join my mother who had been living there for two years.

After working in a variety of jobs I trained as a Primary school teacher and I gained a Bachelor of Education and Masters Degree in Education.

I retired from teaching in 2002 and relocated to live in Ghana after living in England for 44 years. My husband Byron and I have six children and twelve grandchildren.

My Husband And I

Byron and Sonia Lye-Fook were both born in Jamaica and went to live in England  when they were ten years old. They visited Ghana in December 1998 and fell in love with the place and decided it would be the ideal location to spend their retirement. They began building The Almond Tree

Sonia, Byron and son Omar Lye-Fook MBE
Guest House in August 2000 and since then have met many challenges and experiences.

Byron and Sonia know that their coming to Ghana was indeed a  spiritual journey.  They believe that all people, especially those of African Ancestry need to make at least one Pilgrimage to these historical sites in order to fully comprehend the impact of slavery on African people worldwide.

Sonia is a former primary school teacher who retired in August 2003.  As well as running the guest house Sonia saw a need to assist in the development of educational standards in the community in which she now resides, by setting up the Sonibron Education Trust whose aim is to resource a selected number of schools in the local community as well as paying school fees for individuals in need.

Byron is coming from a music business background being a former drummer, playing with blues, soul, reggae and pop bands in the UK.  He is a founder member of the Black Music Association (UK) and Kongo Dance Records as well as being Managing Director of the music publishing company Congo Music Ltd.  His experience as an accountant has proved invaluable in the building and running of the guest house.
